How not to waste food

Here are simple tips you could use to eat better, waste less, and nourish “not deplete” our planet:

  • Shop wisely. Plan your meals in advance. Make use of shopping lists and buy in bulk. Don’t give in to marketing ploys that lead you to buy more food than you need.
  • Freeze leftovers. Fresh produce and leftovers should be frozen if you know that you are not going to have a chance to eat them before they go bad.
  • Use the whole vegetable. Don’t throw out your cauliflower or broccoli stems. Rather peel off the tough outer skins, dice them, and cook them with the florets. Use your celery leaves and onion stems to flavour homemade chicken broth.
  • Compost. Composting food scraps can reduce their climate impact, while also recycling their nutrients.
