Many households have switched to using fluorescent light bulbs in an effort to lower their monthly electricity bill. If you still haven’t made the switch, now is the time. You won’t just save electricity, but also money, because fluorescent bulbs last much longer than traditional incandescent ones. However, don’t throw the fluorescent bulbs in the rubbish bin when they burn out, as they contain mercury. Find out in your community how to dispose of them responsibly.
And while you’re in an energy-saving mood, make sure you turn off your computer at night. You can also go one step further and unplug most of your appliances when you go to bed to save even more electricity. A convenient way to do this is to plug several of your appliances into a single power strip, and then just turn off the strip.
