Homemade Air Fresheners

How fabulous would it be to have fresh flowers in your homes daily for their aroma? Of course it would be possible to do, but it could turn out to be a costly exercise. Here’s the perfect idea to get your home smelling great – make your own gel air freshener. These take a total of five minutes to make, are highly economical, and each jar should last you about a month. They would also make great gifts!

You need:

Heat-proof jars, food colouring, and essential oil. You can find a variety of essential oils at pharmacies and craft stores.

Method:

Into each jar, drop a few drops of food colouring. Add about 30 drops of essential oil – the more essential oil you put in, the stronger the smell.

Gather up 4 envelopes of unflavoured gelatin, a tablespoon of salt (salt – or vodka – helps to preserve the gel, and prevent mould from growing) and two cups of cold water.

Get one cup of water boiling on the stove. When it begins to boil, whisk in the gelatin, stirring until it’s all dissolved.Add the other cup of cold water and the salt (or vodka), and stir until the salt is dissolved.

Quickly pour the hot gelatin mixture in each of your jars, and then use a disposable stick or spoon to stir it into the oil and food colouring.

Let the gel set overnight, and then voila! Air freshener!
